About Kalighat Temple

Kalighat Temple, also known as Taraknath Temple, is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, situated in the town of Tarakeswar in the Hooghly district of West Bengal, India. Approximately 58 kilometers from Kolkata, it serves as a significant pilgrimage site for devotees from across the country.

Kalighat Temple, over 200 years old, is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and a major spiritual landmark of Kolkata. It is believed that the right toe of Goddess Sati fell here. The temple is dedicated to Maa Kali, known for her fierce yet loving protection of her devotees.

  • By Road: : Very easily reachable from any part of Kolkata by Bus or Taxi. Well connected via Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Road and Rashbehari Avenue.
  • By Flight: : Nearest Airport: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU), Kolkata Distance: 25 km(by road) From airport, travel by cab or metro from Dum Dum to Kalighat.
